Father and son since 1978
Chairs of Oxford is a family business which has relocated from its original workshop formerly trading as G Gomersall and Sons Upholstery (Green Road, Headington, Oxford). The existing family business was established in 1978 by Paul's father, Geoff Gomersall. Paul joined his father in 1988 whilst attending the Bucks College of Further Education where he completed, with distinction, his City and Guilds and full upholstery apprenticeship.
Between father and son, we have and continue to provide a highly reputable restoration and re-upholstery service with the combined knowledge of over 75 years of experience in the furniture industry.
The emphasis is to restore the project in question to its original condition or take advantage of using the finest modern fabrics and leather available and transforming it into a contemporary piece of art. Whatever your requirements, we are confident that we can provide you with the perfect solution.

What our customers say
Rated 4.9 out of 5 from 19 reviews on Google.
We had 8 cherry wood 1970s Danish dining room chairs recovered recently. The Gomersalls did a wonderful job: helping us choose the right leather, renovating the wood and completing the reupholstery beautifully. We are delighted with the result.
Absolutely thrilled with our re upholstered dining chairs, excellent job done by Mr Gomersall and his son, kept us informed of the progress and we were able to drop off and collect at a suitable time for us all. Thoroughly recommend their work, amazing. Thank you both so very much.
Paul and Geoff did a fantastic job completely overhauling and reupholstering an armchair, which has been in our family for 3 generations and holds great sentimental value for us. We now have it back looking like new and we are confident it will out last us! Chairs of Oxford are not the cheapest option but their cost reflects the exceptional skill and experience they supply, together with a helpful, thoughtful level of service so rarely found these days..well worth every last penny
What a joy it was to use the expert services of the Messrs Gomersal (father and son). We had been given a gout stool as a wedding present (!) and, over 40 years on, the leather needed replacing. They did a great job from helping us choose the best type of leather to completing the work so beautifully. Fascinating to see real experts at work. Not cheap, but the quality of the work is outstanding. It is a pleasure to support such skilled craftsmen. We also had two (upright) chair seats recovered - again, excellent work.
PS They are very busy - we waited a couple of months for the work to be done, but it was well worth the wait!
I was so impressed with Chairs of Oxford - a father and son, family business. Mr Gommersall, Senior and Junior both did such a wonderful job on my father's old chair from the 70's.
If you look closely at the chair, the floral fabric has been placed so meticulously - the wings and arms of the chair mirror one another with regards to matching areas of the fabric. The same goes for the end of the arms - you can see that both show only the leaves and stems of the material whilst the front and seat feature the big blooms in the fabric - amazing detailed work!
The back was matched with a high quality velvet selected from the materials available from Chairs of Oxford.
Overall, the upholstery was beautifully done and could not have been done any better. A real professional job with excellent craftmanship - rarely found.
I am so pleased that I chose Chairs of Oxford - the Mr Gommersalls, Senior and Junior, were a joy to meet and I would not hesitate to recommend them.
